Missouri Farmers' Markets Growing

One of my favorite parts of my job is spreading the word about local foods and our state’s wonderful farmers’ markets across the state. We had press at each one of our workshops around the state this year. Consumers are excited about the increase in the number of Missouri markets and the opportunity to support their local farmers.

We had a lot of publicity for the Jefferson City Farmers’ Market Workshop, including three tv spots on the 5 o’clock, 6 o’clock and 6 am shows on KOMU, plus an article on the channel’s website…see below.

Farmers' markets offer consumers the chance to put a face with the food they buy, cutting down on security and health concerns.

Because of the growing consumer demand to see where their food is coming from, farmers' markets are growing in number and popularity.

"Mainly, they're wanting to reconnect with the farmers and buy directly from them," said Lane McConnell, a marketing specialist with the Missouri Department of Agriculture.
