Do you know someone that is looking for an internship this summer? If so, the Webb City Farmers Market has a great opportunity available.
The market is looking for an intern to work from May 1 through September 1, with the preferred candidate being available from June 10 through August 1 at a minimum. The position would require approximately 30 hours per week.
The internship will provide substantial experience in community organization, managerial, marketing and horticultural skills.
Compensation will include room and board, if desired, and a stipend of $50 per week.
Supervised duties include:
Working with the Kids’ Community Garden participants in the gardens and in selling at the market and with the Senior Citizen Community Garden.
Visiting our Hmong demonstration projects once a week to evaluate and advise. Once a month that visit would be accompanied by Jay Chism, MU Extension agronomist who would be available throughout the season to consult with the intern.
Assisting with the market on-site as well as visiting growers as needed. The intern would co-manage the Saturday market
In addition, the intern could, if interested, organize and manage the market’s volunteer program and special events. The intern could also write some of the market’s weekly columns, which are printed in the local newspaper, and do television appearances on behalf of the market.
The market has applied for a SARE grant for a solar irrigation system for one of the Hmong growers. If awarded, the intern would help install and monitor the system.
