Cole County Farmers' Market

Farmers’ market season is in full swing and if you haven’t visited your local market, today is the perfect time to do so. Find a local market in your area.

Yesterday a visit to the Cole County Farmers’ Market was quite a treat. Consumers started lining up a half hour before the market opened to buy sweet corn and other produce. Selling didn’t begin until Market Master James Hohman blew the whistle and then the sales were off and running.

A lady standing in line to purchase some of former Director of Agriculture, Lowell Mohler’s sweet corn said the wait is worth it. Her favorite part of the market is the helpful and friendly farmers she gets to talk with and the delicious local produce the market offers.

The community market offers consumers items such as blueberries, raspberries, jams and preserves, organic vegetables, heirloom produce, herbs, plants, sweet corn, baked items, many varieties of tomatoes and the opportunity to talk with local Jefferson City producers.

The market it open on Tuesday and Fridays from 4:00-6:00 pm and Saturdays from 2:00-4:00pm, May throughout October. For more information about the market please contact Market Master James Hohman at 573-392-3088. The market is located in the K-Mart parking lot on Missouri Boulevard. Take Hwy 50 to Jefferson City, exit at Hwy 179 and turn left. Go Left on Missouri Boulevard and follow to K-Mart.

Lane- as a first-timer to the JC farmer's market, is there anything I need to bring, such as bags for my purchases? And do most vendors take cash only or checks? Thanks for your help!

If this is your first time to the JC market I woudl suggest bringing a bag. The vendors have bags, but it's always nice to recyle.

The vendors also only take cash.

Happy shopping and let me know how the experience went.
